A creative writing workshop for young people held monthly at Queensland Writers Centre.
After a successful year, we are excited to announce that Youth Writing Saturdays will be introducing themed sessions for 2022. The program will continue to be free for members, and held here at our workshop space. To kick it off, our January theme is Queensland Summer.
This theme is in celebration of summer in our beautiful home of Queensland. Mangoes by the pool, frangipanis on sidewalks, afternoon thunderstorms, and a good beach read — these are some of the things that make summer in the Sunshine State special to us. In our "Queensland Summer" workshop, students will draw inspiration from the season to write about their own relationship with summer in Queensland.
About the workshop
Youth Writing Saturdays is a creative writing workshop for young people held monthly at Queensland Writers Centre. Whether the young writers are self-publishing savants or eager bookworms, Youth Writing Saturdays provides a space where they can find their tribe.
Please ensure you select the right ticket type for yourself or your child:
Grades 7-9: 10am -11:30am
Grades 10-12: 1pm - 2:30pm
Learning outcomes
Working with a practical approach, the input from students shapes the curriculum, topics, and writing exercises from month to month. Two tutors facilitate the workshop and offer support by listening to ideas, reading work, and helping edit pieces for submission opportunities. We’re all about working towards goals, publishing opportunities, allowing for writing time and free discussion at every workshop.
For parents and caretakers
During the workshop there are no parents allowed in the workshop room. Feel free to use the State Library Facilities, have a read, grab a coffee at the State Library Café or GOMA Café, go for a walk or nap in your car. Whatever suits you. We will be supervising the students during their sessions.
