Live Stream Events
Connecting to the live stream
Your access link to connect to the live stream will be provided to you via email prior to the event. Look for an email with the subject line: Live stream access – [Event Name]. This may also include event handouts and further information. Please note this is separate from your Eventbrite registration confirmation email which should automatically arrive when you make your booking.
Most registered participants will receive the access 3-4 days prior to the event. Any last-minute registrations will receive the access link the morning of the workshop, no later than 1 hour prior to the event start time.
Your live stream access link is unique and must not be shared.
Please note that Queensland Writers Centre is unable to provide individual tech support on the day of workshops.
Platform (Zoom)
Queensland Writers Centre conducts the majority of our live stream workshops over Zoom. Please have the software installed and take the time to become familiar with the platform in advance. Please note that Queensland Writers Centre is unable to provide individual tech support on the day of workshops.
Once you’re in the Zoom room, there’s no need to have video or microphone on at any time, unless you want to. Generally you will be muted by default – please don’t unmute yourself unless invited or speak over the presenter.
Live stream replays
If you’re unable to attend live, or would like to catch up on/review content after the session, a live stream replay will be made available for most Queensland Writers Centre live stream events (exceptions may include long form Courses staged over multiple weeks).
Replay access will be provided to participants via email before close of business the next business day following the workshop - i.e. if the workshop is held Saturday, replay access will be provided before 5:00pm Monday. The replay will be accessible for up to 7 days.
Please note you cannot purchase access to a live stream after the event - you must be booked in before registrations close.
If you are watching the replay, please keep in mind that you won't be able to use the chat feature or ask questions to the presenter. For the best experience, we highly recommend watching live.
TIME ZONE
All Queensland Writers Centre events are advertised using Brisbane time (AEST). Please take into account differences in time zone if you are tuning in from interstate or overseas.
Hybrid and live stream only events
Many of Queensland Writers Centre’s workshops that are available to live stream are hybrid events, held in person with a class at Queensland Writers Centre and live streamed simultaneously to an online audience. Make sure to purchase the correct ticket for your preferred mode of attending the workshop.
Live stream only events are broadcast solely to an online audience.
Asking questions
A Queensland Writers Centre live stream facilitator will monitor the chat section and ask questions on behalf of the group to the tutor when possible. At most events, the instructor will also provide time to answer such questions directly from the group; however, depending on the number of class size and length of session, for the tutor to answer everyone's question within the time allocated can be a challenge, so please understand.
Preparing for events
We suggest having either a pen and paper or electronic note-taking device on hand as you watch the live stream.
Interaction in the group chat
The group chat is a fantastic way to interact and collaborate with other online participants, the live stream facilitator, and the presenter. We expect members to be courteous and respectful in the group chat. The same behaviour you would conduct yourself in person at a Queensland Writers Centre event is expected online. The live stream facilitator will remove any participants who don't abide by these rules so other participants can enjoy the event. If you are removed you will not be refunded the admission.
Video & audio quality
Every live stream is broadcasted from Queensland Writers Centre at the highest possible resolution. Your personal internet connection may affect the quality of the video and audio you see and hear live.
Program of Events - Terms

We reserve the right to remove anyone who behaves in an aggressive or disruptive manner. If a participant is asked to leave the class on this basis, we will not offer a refund. We cannot accept responsibility for any loss, damage or expense sustained by students as a result of an event or circumstance whether arising from natural cause, human agency or beyond our control otherwise.
