Writing Junior Fiction

A crash-course in writing junior fiction for writers of all levels, with award-winning Brisbane author Dave Lowe.

This informal, interactive session will focus on: hooking the reader; developing interesting characters; voice; dialogue; humour; and, perhaps most importantly of all, pacing. We’ll focus on common pitfalls and how to avoid them, and we’ll also take a look at the editing process, and how to polish your manuscript so it’s as good as it can possibly be. Finally, we’ll look at how to approach agents and publishers.

Learning Outcomes

  • Guidance in planning your junior fiction novel

  • Creating interesting and believable characters

  • Polishing your work on a sentence level.
