WRITER’S BOOK CLUB FEBRUARY

Join us for our February Writer's Book Club to discuss our featured author, Mark Brandi, and his crime-thriller, The Others (2021). We will be hosting an online author Q&A with Mark Brandi on Sunday 6th February from 7-8pm. This tie-in event is free for the Book Club and is a chance to put forth your questions to Mark Brandi directly.

About the Book Club

This is an 18+ event.

Writer's Book Club meets monthly from 6-8pm at Queensland Writers Centre to discuss the craft and technique in featured releases by Australian and Queensland authors. The Writer's Book Club welcomes all writers, editors, and readers looking to learn from the masters. Wine, tea, and coffee are provided, courtesy of Queensland Writers Centre.

Learning Outcomes

You will learn how to:

  • Improve your intuitive understanding of the craft of writing by learning how to Read with Intent.

  • Analyse works through the lens of both a reader and a writer.

  • Identify genre and contemporary market conventions through practical exercises and discussions.

  • Engage thoughtfully with a broader range of works in a variety of genres.

About the Book

From the bestselling author of WIMMERA and THE RIP comes an unforgettable novel that explores the darkness in our world with the light only a child can find.

On his eleventh birthday, Jacob's father gives him a diary. To write about things that happen. About what he and his father do on their farm. About the sheep, the crop, the fox and the dam. But Jacob knows some things should not be written down. Some things should not be remembered.

The only things he knows for sure are what his father has taught him. Sheltered, protected, isolated. But who is his father protecting him from? And how far will his father go to keep the world at bay?

All too soon, Jacob will learn that, sometimes, people do the most terrible things.
