Turning Everyday Life Into Creative Writing
For young writers (Grades 7-12): turn your true (and possibly mundane) stories into entertaining fiction and non-fiction.
Think you have to be rich or famous to write about your life? Think again! We may not all be living our dreams yet, but in the meantime, this workshop will teach you how to mine your everyday life for writing material and how to weave a common thread through the tidbits you collect. Learn how to turn even the most boring true story into fiction or creative non-fiction that entertains, amuses, and provokes thought.
This workshop is held as part of Queensland Writers Centre's Youth Writing program, and as a satellite event for Brisbane Children's Writers Festival 2022.
Format
This is a face-to-face workshop with a focus on craft; it will be held in-person at State Library of Queensland. It is a level 1 course suitable for all young writers aged 12-18.
