Discovering Your Voice with Maree Kimberley (10-16)

This workshop will take writers on an adventure to help them find their unique storytelling voice. We’ll cover defining just what "voice" is, examples of different "voices", writing exercises using prompts to write from different character points of view, and writing tips.

 

Format

This is a free workshop for young writers aged 10-16 held as part of Brisbane Children’s Writers Festival 2023, in partnership with Brisbane City Council. Bookings are required.

About Maree

Maree Kimberley is a writer from Meanjin/Brisbane who loves to write about everything from science and the wonders of nature to supernatural abilities. Some of her favourite things are street art, spooky places, and second-hand shops because there’s always something interesting to find.

Inspired by the remote Cape York wilderness, her young adult novel Dirt Circus League was a 2022 Children’s Book Council Australia notable book, and was shortlisted in the 2021 Aurealis Awards for Best Young Adult Novel and the 2022 Davitt Awards for Best Young Adult Crime Novel.
