While Some... - C Ansell

While some were binging on Netflix

- Some of us were too scared to sleep.

While some were day drinking

- Some of us were struggling to keep our grip on our sanity.

While some were complaining about Covid-19 testing lines

- Some of us were terrified to visit our doctor for what they may notice.

While some were upset about visitor restrictions

- Some of us were grateful for an excuse not to have people in our home – there’s less questions that way.

While some spent hours perfecting a Tiktok dance
- Some of us walked on eggshells, ever vigilant.

While some were bitching about remote learning
- Some of us were worried our kids were now in harm’s way.

While some were whining about only being able to go out for food, medical, essential work, and exercise

- Some of us – well that was our normal way of life – restricted and controlled.

While some were battling over toilet paper and pasta

- Some of us were fighting for our lives.

While some were making jokes and sharing mems about spending so much time with their partners

- Some of us were trapped with our tormenters.

While some were lamenting not being able to go to the pub and dance

- Some of us were praying we’d make it out alive.

While some moaned as their gym closed and café turned to take out only

- Some of us saw possible safe escape options slam shut, perhaps forever.

While some spent on an online shopping spree

- Some of us hid mere dollars here and there in the hope that one day we could afford to run.

While some couldn’t stop talking about how awful lockdown was

- Some of us stayed silent – fearful of putting others in danger, ashamed about the situation we found ourselves in, worried about what tomorrow would bring.

While some wished for an end to 2020
- Some of us just hoped we’d live to see 2021.
