Youth Writing Saturdays

with Queensland Writers Centre

This is a FREE, monthly creative writing workshop for young writers at all skill levels in grade 7-9.

Youth Saturdays is a new program by Queensland Writers Centre for our younger members and youth who want to develop their creative writing skills. But the big difference is that this workshop is going to be shaped by our students' interests and their writing goals.

Whether you are a self-publishing savant or a bookworm who wants to write, come along. Writers of all levels are welcome here, because we can learn and teach each other along the way. The only real competition is yourself.

Do you want to write a Fantasy? Let's look at storytelling and worldbuilding.

Do you write song lyrics on your phone? Let's talk about poetry and melody.

Do you want to make movies? Learn how to format a Screenplay.

Are you working on something right now? Bring it along and we will give you feedback and guidance.

Learning Outcomes:

For 90-minutes every month, we will talk about different aspects of writing and write together. Come make friends and learn creative writing by doing it!

We will have new ideas and writing exercises every session, but you can always chose to write about something else (or even read) during writing time.

This is a creative space, and we are here to help you. Please bring your writing along if you're feeling brave enough, we want to see your work!

Looking forward to seeing you!

— Connor and Sebastian

For parents and caretakers:

During the workshop there are no parents allowed in the workshop room. Feel free to use the State Library Facilities, have a read, grab a coffee at the State Library Café or GOMA Café, go for a walk or nap in your car. Whatever suits you. We will be supervising the students from 10-11:30.
