Whether you’ve already completed the first draft of a memoir, or are yet to write a word, this is a workshop for intermediate writers that will help develop ideas and polish your life writing. With prize-winning writer and university teacher, Sarah Klenbort, you will close-read a number of short memoirs before working to develop your own. There will be writing exercises and opportunities to share stories in an encouraging classroom environment. Sarah will also provide individual feedback and constructive criticism of your work.

Understand how setting creates a sense of time and place
Have examined how dialogue can bring their story and characters to life
Feel more comfortable editing their own memoir

About Sarah
Sarah Klenbort is a prize-winning writer who’s just moved to Brisbane after teaching Literature at Western Sydney University and Memoir Writing at Sydney Community College for nine years. She also recently received a grant to teach Memoir at Waverley Library. Her writing has appeared in Best Australian Stories, Overland, Southerly, Island Magazine, The Guardian and various anthologies. She has an MFA from Columbia University and a PhD in Literature from Binghamton University. Sarah loves meeting writers and reading their stories.
How to Connect to the Live Stream:

The other will be an email from Queensland Writers Centre on behalf of Crowdcast, our live stream provider. The latter email will thank you for registering for the course and provide you with a link to the video. A representation of this email is below; the 'Visit Event' button will take you to the live stream's landing page.
It is only through this link in which you may access the live stream, so it is important that you check that you have received it. In case you misplace this email, you will receive another email with the live stream link 10 minutes before the course is scheduled to start. FAQs
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Unless otherwise stated, Queensland Writers Centre workshops and events are suitable for participants aged 16 years and over. If you are under 18 years of age, please check with us for suitability before purchasing a ticket.
Membership will be confirmed on arrival, in the event it isn't current, membership will need to be arranged.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

What can I bring into the event?
You can bring either pen and paper or a laptop along with you to write with. If you do bring a laptop, please remember to bring a power adaptor if necessary.
Will this event be live streamed?
Queensland Writers Centre aims to provide material to its membership regardless of where they reside within Queensland by live streaming some events. Attendees may be broadcast periodically throughout the event as recording takes place. If you wish not to be filmed, let staff know prior to the event.

What's the refund policy?
If Queensland Writers Centre cancels an event, we will try to reschedule it for a later date. If we cannot reschedule the event, or if you are unable to attend on the amended date, your payment will be refunded in full.
