Look Down. Does It Have Legs? with Stephen M. Irwin | Pitchable 2025

Book your place

Thoughts on the process of examining a raw idea to explore its story potential.

We all have ideas – sometimes they come from life experiences; sometimes they come unbidden seemingly from nowhere. But does the idea have potential to grow from a tiny notion to a full-blown story? What does it have? What does it lack? And what can you do about it?

Learning outcomes

As part of this workshop, participants will learn:

  • Why a sense of value should be placed on every new idea.

  • Some key story lenses through which to interrogate a new idea.

  • Concepts for addressing the "something is missing" feeling about an idea.

  • The importance of moving an idea from head to hand (i.e. from out of the mind and onto a page).

Format

This is an online workshop with a focus on craft; it will be hosted via Zoom. As part of the Pitchable 2025 program, this workshop is suitable for writers of all levels and writing backgrounds. A 7-day replay will be made available to participants.

Complimentary access to this workshop is available to all Pitchable 2025 applicants – please select the free Entrant Admission ticket type (ensure your registration details match those of your initial application). Other Queensland Writers Centre members and the public may attend with a paid ticket.
