Learn how to raise your author profile and secure valuable media exposure for your book.

You may have written a book you are proud of, that you know will have an impact, but you can't sell a secret. In this workshop, you'll learn tips for making your book visible to a much wider audience, including how to write a compelling media release and prepare for interviews with journalists. Kirsty will set you up for success, sharing the methods she used to build her author profile and have her book Himalayan Dreams featured in magazines, newspapers, radio, and on television.

   

Learning outcomes

In this workshop, you will learn to:

  • Understand how media works for book publicity.

  • Identify and target the right media outlets.

  • Develop a memorable author story.

  • Write a strong media release and pitch.

  • Build confidence in interviews and presentations.

  • Leverage reviews, awards, and events.

 

Format

This is an in-person workshop with a focus on author sustainability; it will be held at State Library of Queensland. This workshop is suitable for emerging authors (particularly those with an upcoming release) and is suitable for writers of all writing backgrounds.

 

About Kirsty

Kirsty Nancarrow is an award-winning former ABC journalist, author, and Director of eMotion Video & Media Training based in Cairns. Kirsty founded Women in Media Far North Queensland and has been a passionate advocate for regional journalists, social justice, and gender equality throughout her career. Kirsty wrote her first book, Himalayan Dreams: The Story of Som Tamang after a life-changing visit to Nepal following the 2015 earthquakes. She was a finalist in the 2025 Women Changing the World Global Awards for Literature.
