Electrify your writing through embodied practice. Spark your characters and settings with authenticity and bring them to life in your reader's imagination.
How do you make your characters and the worlds they live in jump off the page to inhabit your reader's imagination? Embodying your writing is a path to authenticity; when your characters and settings ring true, you create portals for your reader to connect with your characters and the worlds they live in. This workshop will provide you with generative, mindfulness and visual writing techniques that invite your full presence to your writing in ways that will help to captivate your readers, allow them to inhabit your fictional worlds and engage with your characters in ways that will keep them reading.
Learning outcomes
In this workshop you will:
Learn visualisation and other sensory techniques to bring settings to life
Arm yourself with a toolbox of generative writing exercises that help you get out of the way of your writing
Understand the things that can get in the way of creating authenticity in fiction writing, and how to edit them out.
Format
This is a hybrid workshop with a focus on writing craft; it will be held in-person at Queensland Writers Centre, State Library of Queensland, and live streamed simultaneously to an online audience via Zoom. As a Level 1 workshop, it is suitable for all writers. A 7-day replay will be made available to all participants.
