Cooking Up A Synopsis with Laurel Cohn

  • Queensland Writers Centre & online Stanley Place South Brisbane, QLD, 4101 Australia (map)

Master synopsis writing

Most writers find writing a synopsis almost as daunting as producing an 80,000 word manuscript. But there is no way around it if you want your work published. Writing a synopsis is also a valuable developmental tool to help you understand what your story is about and what you are wanting to say. Learn the necessary ingredients of a synopsis and how to put them together to cook up a great result.

Learning outcomes:

  1. A clear understanding of what a synopsis is.

  2. Specific tools and strategies to write a synopsis.

  3. An idea of what works and doesn’t work in a synopsis.

  4. Inspiration to rework an existing synopsis, or write a new one.

  5. A well-worked draft synopsis.

Format

This is a hybrid workshop offered in-person and online with a focus on writing craft; it will be held at State Library of Queensland. This workshop is designed with a focus on beginner and emerging writers but is suitable for writers of all levels and backgrounds.
