Dr Robyn Sheahan-Bright AM – recognised in the 2021 Australia Day Honours List
Congratulations to Dr Robyn Sheahan-Bright who was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2021 Australia Day Honours List. Robyn received the award for her service in supporting children’s literature and the promotion of reading.
Robyn is a tireless supporter of Queensland’s writing community. She co-founded Jam Roll Press in 1988 (with Leonie Tyler and Robyn Collins) to publish children’s books and young adult fiction. Jam Roll Press was later sold to the University of Queensland Press.
Robyn was employed as the inaugural director of Queensland Writers Centre in 1991 and remained in the role until 1997. She was actively involved in establishing Queensland’s literary scene, including several of our longest running literary festivals.
In 2014, Robyn received QWC’s Johnno Award for her contribution to Queensland writing. She is a recipient of the Nan Chauncy Award (2012) for her contribution to Australian children’s literature and the Dame Annabelle Rankin Award (2011) for distinguished services to children’s literature.
Robyn lives in Gladstone and continues to actively participate in Queensland’s writing community.
