Adaptable is BACK!

The wait is over. ADAPTABLE is here again.

Last year, in collaboration with Screen Queensland, we established the first ever ADAPTABLE event here at the State Library. Twenty-six authors were selected to meet with thirty-four screen producers to pitch their work with the aim of being adapted to the screen. At Market Day, an incredible 172 pitching sessions were held and a whole lot of networking was done. Seven projects have already begun moving forward and we’re keen to keep in touch and hear about everyone’s future progress.

One project, Grover McBane, was picked up and taken straight to MipTV at Cannes. Grover’s now going through the funding process and on the road to potential production. Another project met with a producer who introduced them to the right person to progress their project and they are now in pre-production for a pilot. Most importantly, everyone involved learned the essential skills of writing a synopsis and pitching. This is a strong outcome for ADAPTABLE, as it means writers can take these skills with them and pitch with confidence whenever the opportunity arises.

Entries have opened again, so it’s time to get your projects organised and out there. We’ll have a mix of producers that will include some from the first ADAPTABLE, as well as a bunch of new producers. That means previous entries are welcome again, as different producers are looking for different kinds of work to adapt.

The most important thing for anyone with an opportunity like this is getting your pitch and pitch documents right. We’ll have more on that next week, so be sure to check back for some tips on writing the synopsis.
